The
Senior Benefits Analyst is responsible for managing, analyzing, and administering the US employee benefits program to ensure competitiveness, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires advanced analytical skills, a deep understanding of US benefits regulations, and the ability to provide strategic recommendations for enhancing employee offerings. Strong understanding of California benefit related regulations is required. The Senior Benefits Analyst serves as a subject matter expert and key resource for internal stakeholders on benefits-related matters.
This is a full time, exempt, benefit eligible, remote position based out of Berkeley, CA.

Benefits

- Responsible for all facets of US benefit plan administration including enrollments, changes, qualifying life events, terminations and COBRA administration and compliance for all plans.
- Ensures that benefit policies and procedures are properly administered to adhere to plan provisions and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements for existing and new legislation impacting the development and administration of company benefit programs and changes.
- Project Lead for annual Open Enrollment
- Project Lead for annual retirement plan audit and 5500 filing
- Project Lead for annual benefit plans non-discrimination testing
- Assists with benefit renewal strategy to include benefit review and plan design changes based on knowledge of best practices.
- Assists in the implementation of new plans, programs and changes to plans and/or administrative procedures. Prepares business requirement documentation of changes. Serves as the project lead for the review and testing of related materials and systems changes.
- Analyze utilization trends and identify opportunities to optimize programs. Recommend enhancements to benefits programs to improve employee satisfaction and retention.
- Acts as a trusted advisor for Human Resources, Payroll, management and providers and staff by providing guidance and assistance regarding health and wellness and retirement plans and all related programs, policies and procedures.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for escalations pertaining to benefit and retirement plan matters.
- Oversee the coordination of the development, maintenance and distribution of plan communications, materials and plan documents in partnership with the HR communications program manager.
- Serves as subject matter expert for all leaves of absences and disability programs ensuring compliance with company policies, state and federal laws. Provides expert counsel related to COBRA, disability process, and the various Leave of Absence programs. Interacts with employees on leave of absence requests and disability claims; clarifies eligibility, salary and benefit continuation as needed.
- Strong understanding of benefits laws and regulations, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
- Advanced proficiency in HRIS and benefits administration systems (e.g., Paycom, ADP, Workday).
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration, including at least 2 - 3years in a senior analyst level role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a federally qualified health center
- Familiarity with union and non-union benefits programs.
