About The Role
The Manager, HR Operations is responsible for overseeing the efficiency and effectiveness of HR systems, processes, and policies to ensure a seamless employee experience. This role will drive operational excellence, compliance, and process optimization within HR functions, partnering closely with HR Business Partners, Legal, IT, Payroll, and other key stakeholders.
This is a high-impact leadership role where you will manage and scale HR operational processes, ensuring that they support BetterUp’s rapid growth, global workforce, and employee experience goals.
What You'll Do
HR Operations & Process Optimization
- Lead and optimize end-to-end HR processes, including onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, leave management, and employee records.
- Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements to enhance the employee experience and operational scalability.
- Ensure HR policies and procedures are clearly documented, consistently applied, and aligned with compliance requirements.
- Manage and streamline HR case management and employee support processes, acting as a point of escalation for complex issues.
HR Systems & Data Management
- Oversee HR systems (Workday or similar), ensuring proper functionality, configuration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure HR data integrity, reporting accuracy, and compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Partner with IT to troubleshoot system issues, implement system enhancements, and optimize HR workflows.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with employment laws, data privacy regulations, and HR best practices across multiple jurisdictions.
- Maintain HR documentation and records in accordance with legal and company standards.
- Lead or support HR audits, compliance reporting, and policy updates.
People Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Manage and develop an HR Operations team, ensuring high performance and continuous learning.
- Serve as a thought partner to senior HR, Legal, Payroll, and IT stakeholders, ensuring that HR Operations align with BetterUp’s broader business objectives.
- Partner with the HRBP team to support complex employee inquiries and cases related to payroll, benefits, and policy interpretation.
- Lead or contribute to HR initiatives related to process optimization, compliance updates, and operational efficiency.
Workplace Experience
- Lead the transformation of the Workplace Experience team, evolving its focus from facilities management to a holistic Workplace Experience function. Oversee daily office operations while driving a long-term strategy that enhances employee engagement, collaboration, and productivity. Ensuring alignment between Workplace Experience initiatives and remote work policies to support a seamless employee experience.
Own vendor and third-party management, ensuring contract accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and strategic alignment with company goals. Proactively assess partnerships to ensure cultural fit and incentivize behaviors that reinforce business priorities, strengthening vendor relationships and operational efficiency.
What You'll Need
6+ years of experience in HR operations, HRIS, or related HR leadership roles.
Proven experience in scaling HR processes, systems, and compliance in a fast-growing company.
Strong HRIS expertise (Workday required).
Data-driven mindset with experience in HR reporting and analytics.
Experience managing a team and fostering a high-performance culture.
Ability to work in high-growth, fast-paced, and mission-driven environments.
Own vendor and third-party management
Experience with global HR operations and compliance.
HR certifications (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) is a nice to have.
Background in tech or high-growth startups.

At BetterUp, we compensate our employees fairly for their work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, residence location, as well as market indicators. The range below is representative of base salary only and does not include equity, sales bonus plans (when applicable) and benefits. This range may be modified in the future.
The base salary range for this role is $134,000– $229,000.
If you live in New York, the base salary range for this role is:
$191,000 – $229,000: New York City
$134,000 – $200,000: Albany, Buffalo, Nassau, Newburgh, Rochester, Syracuse
