JOB SUMMARY:
The Scale House Attendant/Operator is the first point of contact for customers depositing solid waste at our facility. Daily responsibilities include performing initial inspection of loads, collecting, reviewing, and processing the appropriate paperwork. The Scale House attendant/operator also ensures the safety of all customers/visitors, and other employees through observation of company safety rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets customers and answers questions accurately in a friendly, service-orientated manner.
- Directs haulers and other traffic to appropriate location within the facility.
- Ensures incoming material is manifested and not prohibited or unsafe.
- Collects appropriate information to properly bill customers and track the type and quantity of waste entering the facility.
- Completes transactions by providing customer a scale ticket, signing the manifest, and documenting/inputting the waste material received.
- Communicates dispatch to management and other employees via a 2-way radio
- Keeps immediate supervisor fully informed of all matters requiring his/her attention.
- Provides general housekeeping of the Scale House.
- Flexibility to work weekends, overtime and holidays as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED OPERATOR TRAINING:
The Scale House Attendant/Operator will undergo appropriate training that covers hazardous waste and PCB screening.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Clear communicator and team player.
- Able to competently use computers and computer software.
- Knowledge of office equipment including but not limited to, computer, phone, copier, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
SKILLS PREFERRED:
- One year scale house or relevant administrative experience.

- Work is performed in an office environment as well as outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion.
- Ability to sit at desk and use computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stretch, reach and kneel throughout the workday.
- The noise environment may occasionally be moderate to loud.
- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday.
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) occasionally.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Compensation commensurate with experience level.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a drug screen and background check after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
